The traditional Greek New Year’s Carols

During the morning hours of the 31st of December, each year, children visit their neighborhood’s homes to sing the New Year’s carols with the help of a musical triangle and they wish people Happy New Year. In cities, they also visit shops to sing the carols. The shop owners in return, offer the children a small amount of money to thank them for the wishes.

In Greek tradition, Santa Claus is named Saint Vassilis and he visits the houses in New Years Eve to bring the presents to children. The lyrics of the New Year’ s carols, basically are used to welcome Saint Vassilis into Greek houses for prosperous life and good health.
