The picturesque town of Preveza (Πρέβεζα) is situated on the North cape of Amvrakikos Gulf. A visit to its town is not to be missed if you travel in the Northwestern part of Greece.  It is the capital of the region, known for its history,  natural beauty, cobbled stoned alleys and lively port, traditional tavernas and summer cultural events, and surely turquoise colored beaches that make you will feel you are in an island.   We collected some of our favourite pictures to show you the beauty of this idyllic town.

Odyssey Challenge | Are you ready for the ultimate obstacle race?

About two weeks ago, as  I was spending time on Facebook, I saw a video of the Odyssey Challenge  race. Although I am not that adventurous and athletic myself, I got really curious with all this Odyssey Challenge and I must say that I admired the willpower all these athletes have. I am sure some people would be interested in getting more info about or even taking part in it. That’s this post about then.

Odyssey challenge is a 25 Km race with 40 impressive obstacles taken at the magical Alonaki beach in Preveza, near Parga.

(all words and photos are taken from the official Odyssey Challenge website)

The Odyssey Challenge is the first major obstacle race in Greece, inspired and designed by Greek athletes. The Athlete is called upon to overcome a series of difficulties that will test the limits of his stamina at all levels! He has to run on a mountain, in a forest, on a beach, in sea, in river, to swim, to pass up, down, through obstacles, to carry loads, to climb in ropes, in rocks, to pass through mudslides and face all his fears!

The obstacles.

The obstacles are the core of the Odyssey Challenge Race. We work very hard to offer you the most fascinating and breathtaking obstacles of various levels of difficulty. Our main concern is for you to live a unique experience!
For sure, you will have, already, seen some of our obstacles in other races. We chose to include these obstacles to Odyssey Challenge Race because we think that they are a must-have for any obstacle race. There are also some obstacles (we will not reveal them before the start of the Race!) that will be of our inspiration and construction.

Because the event is something completely new and innovative in Greece, it is the first totally “Greek idea” effort in the highly rising and new branch of activities referred as OCR (Obstacle Course Race), commonly as Obstacle Race. The specific “product” gets higher promotion because it is fully associated with prime time reality ΤV shows, such as “Survivor”.

There is collaboration with more than 30 major sports centers, Gyms and Crossfit Box with group registries of their members  in the race. There are also recommended Gyms to prepare you for the Race.

The event organizers have been in agreement with the most well known greek newspaper, a famous national TV channel and 5 high traffic greek websites.

We have not posted for a while. We were travelling in the Northwestern part of Greece, visiting places near and about the beautiful town of Preveza (Πρέβεζα). We captured many pictures. Wrote our notes and we are ready to start sharing our best moments with you. The posts we are about to write the following days are about this region and its treasures.

One of our unforgettable moment of our trip was the observation of dolphins in the Amvakikos Gulf (Αμβρακικός κόλπος) with Eco-Cruising. Eco Cruising is an effort Vasilis Lekkas (ichthyologist – environmentalist with a Masters on Coastal Zone Management, PADI diving and first aid instructor with professional experience since 2001) and Venetia Gigi (ichthyologist with a Masters on Coastal Zone Management with professional experience since 2003) with the understanding and collaboration of their two children Afrodite and Odysseus.  Their boat, Agios Sostis, as it is named, is a 30 tonne, 14m long, traditional and wooden “trehandiri” (type of boat), equipped with all safety and navigational equipment required by law. The equipment is completed by a 40” onboard screen where you see the presentations, masks and fins so you can admire the U/W world, IKELITE underwater digital camera and video camera to capture your holidays, and also a large BBQ where they prepare your meal while you enjoy your swim in turquoise waters!!! The Rigid Inflatable tender to Agios Sostis “Fouska” is also ready help you discover isolated beaches, majestic caves and hidden wonders that are inaccessible by larger vessels. (text by Eco-Cruising)

The boat departed Preveza port at 10:00 and arrived back, 6 hours later. We spotted a numerous amount of dolphins from close by. The views and the feelings you get while you watch them are so powerful. If you have children, they will surely never get bored during this cruise. We were really happy to see a sea-turtle. Hosts are just amazing, very hospitable and very knowledgeable about the ecology of Amvrakikos Gulf. So if you have a question, ask them. They offered us drinks, refreshments and homemade food. We ended the day in a beautiful beach in Amvrakikos Gulf where we also had a meal in a taverna. You can also rent the boat for private cruising. Ideal for private BBQ on board and majestic sunset views. Costed about 40 euros per adult. If you visit this part of Greece, DO NOT MISS IT!
