The beginning of the path is the place in Monodendri where scenes of ‘Anaparastasi”, the movie of the great Greek director Theodoros Angelopoulos, were filmed, in 1970

Even if the rest of Greece is hot during August, the dense oak trees shades of Vikos Aoos National Park, in the North Pindus Mountains, make hiking the Vikos gorge possible.  We visited the area in mid-August.

Our base was Monodendri village, on the rim of the gorge.

Agia Triada, a little village in Evrytania

Agia Triada is a traditional village in Evrytania, a regional unit in Central Greece. Its visitors are impressed by its architecture, the beautifully built stone houses and the cobbled stoned alleys. This little village is set on the hill of a mountain in a dense forest of chestnut and fir trees. If you visit in wintertime you will be lucky to see the entire area covered in snow.

There are four churches near the village of great significance, that are worth visiting. The church of Agia Triada, the stone built church of Prophet Elias, the church of Saint Velissarios and the church of Saint John.

The village is just 14km from the nearest ski resort and 31km from Karpenissi, Evritania’s capital town. Traditional guest houses and hotels are available, especially for those who prefer being away of more touristic Karpenissi. Local food is delicious and you can choose from a variety of meats, pies and fish.
